Finished taco dip

If you are looking for a great new vegetarian appetizer to serve at a party or just with friends, try this easy and delicious three ingredient taco dip. I was introduced to the non-vegetarian version of this recipe by one of my friends whose mother came up with this delicious treat. I knew right away I could replace regular cream cheese with Tofutti cream cheese and meat chili with vegetarian chili. So here is the recipe for this great vegetarian taco dip!

Serves about 4 as an appetizer
(Depending on how hungry your guests are)

Vegetarian Taco Dip Recipe

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 tub of tofutti cream cheese
  • 1 can of vegetarian chili
  • 1 package of cheese

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

While you wait for your oven to preheat, you can get to work setting up your dip to be baked. Start by taking a 9″ circular pan, or an equivalent sized pan to use.

Take your tofutti cream cheese and spread on the bottom of the pan. I found this was a much easier task if I let the tofutti sit out even for just a couple minutes before doing it so that it would spread better. You almost want to spread it like icing on a cake so that you get a nice even layer of cream cheese on the bottom of the pan.

The next step is to open your can of vegetarian chili and spread that into an even layer as well on top of the cream cheese layer in your pan. If you are so motivated, which perhaps I’ll try in the future, I would recommend making your own vegetarian chili the night before to use in this dip. Anything homemade, in my opinion, will always taste better and be healthier, even if only marginally. Also one more point, the original recipe called for taco sauce on top of the chili. I didn’t do this because I like the way it tastes as is but if you want an extra kick of something add it in here.

The last step is to choose your cheese and spread generously over the chili to make your final layer of your dip.

Once your taco dip is assembled and your oven is preheated, simply place in the oven and bake until the cheese on top has melted. This should only take about ten or fifteen minutes.

Then take out and serve warm with homemade tortilla chips!

With that being said, you do get a good amount of protein, vitamin C, and calcium. So here are the nutrition facts…

One serving of this gives you 251 calories, 16 grams of fat, and 13 grams of carbohydrates. It also gives you 200 milligrams of potassium and 13 grams of protein.

In terms of vitamins, you are getting 0.5% of your daily vitamin C and 13% of your daily vitamin A.

In terms of minerals, you are getting 2% of your daily zinc, 4% of your daily iron, 5% of your daily magnesium, 6% of your daily copper, and 27% of your calcium.
